Description
This webinar introduces researchers and students to working effectively on UIC’s High Performance Computing (HPC) systems using the Linux command line. The session is designed for beginners and those who want a clearer understanding of how Linux skills translate from a personal computer to a supercomputing environment.
We will start with essential Linux commands using a local terminal and gradually move toward tasks commonly performed on the Lakeshore Cluster, such as navigating the system, managing files, and interacting with the job scheduler. The focus is on practical skills that participants can immediately apply to their own research and coursework.
By the end of the session, attendees will have a foundation for working on the command line and a better understanding of how Linux is used in an HPC setting.
Learning Objectives
Participants will learn how to:
- Use essential Linux commands from a local machine’s terminal
- Understand how command-line workflows extend to HPC systems
- Navigate the Lakeshore Cluster environment
