On-Premises SCE
Launched in 2016 , the On-Premises Secure Computing Environment is a virtual machine service that has enabled many cutting edge research projects involving sensitive data at UIC. This system can support researchers who must adhere to HIPAA, FERPA and Personal Information Protection Act of Illinois.

Storage is charged $.10 per GB per month, including 90 days of backups.
Please note, all prices include 40 GB disk space for the operating system. This should not be considered when estimating data storage. Please request storage space for the full size of your dataset or expected data storage needs.
Storage can be increased at any time, but cannot be decreased.

*Please note older versions of Windows are not available because those versions are no longer being supported by Microsoft with security patches.
Calculating storage costs
To calculated total costs per month, simply add the cost for the chosen level to the total storage costs.
Example:
Requirements:
Level 3 (2 CPU, 8 GB RAM), 300 GB storage
Total cost = $61 + (300 * .10) = $91/month
Please note:
Costs will begin to occur when the virtual machine set up is complete and will continue to be charged monthly until the research team has requested the virtual machine be decommissioned.
